The 29th annual Ocean to Bay Bike Tour, presented by NVHomes/Ryan Homes and hosted by the Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce, is slated for April 27-28.
The show-and-go tour brings more than 2,500 cyclists to the Quiet Resorts each spring and will kick off April 27 with the launch of the brand-new Friday Fun Ride.
“The new ride was added in response to feedback from our cyclists,” said Lauren Weaver, executive director of the Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce and Race Director for the annual cycling event. “This ride has continued to grow year over year, and we expect the Saturday ride to sell out. Cyclists are in town on Friday to pick up their packets, and it just made sense to offer them a safe, controlled way to sneak in an easy ride before the main event on Saturday.”
The 15-mile ride Friday Run Ride on April 27 will be limited to 300 cyclists and offered as a combo option for April 28 riders in its inaugural year. The route features a pit-stop at Big Chill Beach Club at the Indian River Inlet, where cyclists can grab a bite to eat and take in the view before heading back into downtown Bethany.
The main event kicks off with the ceremonial start at 7 a.m. April 28 in downtown Bethany Beach. Cyclists regionwide will complete 30-mile, 50-mile, metric century or century courses, weaving throughout the scenic beach and bay locales of southern Delaware. Registrants will receive access to exclusive gifts and amenities including a long-sleeve tech tee and bike mechanics provided by Lifecycle. Rest stops along each route offer restrooms, food and beverages and SAG wagon support available to cyclists from 7:30 a.m. through 2:30 p.m.
After the main event, participants can visit the Continue the Tour Post Party Tent for live entertainment, food, beverages, vendors and prizes. Registrants will be entered to win special prize packages, awarded through a drawing of bib numbers. Cyclists and their families and friends can add to the fun by tagging #OceanToBay on social media in pictures. In addition, the Ocean to Bay Voler commemorative jerseys are available for purchase with to-your-door delivery.
Registration is open, and current prices will increase April 1. Registration will close April 20, and this year’s event is expected to sell out.
