Some fun First State events to dive into this weekend

1. Reeling in ‘RoPhunk’

If rock, funk, reggae and hip-hop made a baby, it’d be called Fish Out of Water.

Furthermore, the child’s nickname would be RoPhunk RaeHop, pronounced “row-funk-ray-hop.”

Based in San Diego, Calif., Fish Out of Water is comprised of bathrobe-toting, funk-thumping dudes with their own swag.

Fish Out of Water didn’t burst onto the live music scene in the U.S. and Australia. Through hard work, hard times and long drives, they couldn’t be denied.

Fish Out of Water will take you under the sea at 2 p.m., Saturday.

2. Finger-licking blues

In his hometown of Washington, D.C., Bobby Thompson cut his teeth learning to play in old blues clubs there.

These days, Thompson’s fangs are as pointed as a canine’s.

After honing his craft as a sought-after support man, Thompson decided to step out as a solo artist, releasing three albums since 2011.

The singer-songwriter will work his magic at 8:30 p.m., Saturday. Admission is free.

3. Soulful experience

Danielle Ponder and the Tomorrow People bring an energy to the stage that’s reminiscent of a tent revival.

A native of Rochester, N.Y., Ponder’s pipes are rooted in soul, alongside her bandmates who deliver mighty grooves.

The outfit will give you something to cheer about, starting at 10 p.m., Friday. Admission is free.
