Caught following brief foot pursuit

A Laurel man was arrested after a brief foot pursuit on Friday, May 25.

At the time of the incident, a Laurel Police Department officer was conducting proactive patrols in the area of North Poplar Street and Maryland Avenue and observed a vehicle traveling in excess of the posted limit. When the officer activated their emergency equipment, the vehicle stopped on North Central Avenue. The officer detected an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and conducted a search, during which a loaded .38 caliber Ruger revolver was located in with 20-year-old Quandre Winder.

Winder fled on foot as the officers were detaining the other occupants of the vehicle. Following a brief pursuit, officers caught up to Winder, who, according to police, continued to resist arrest. He was eventually tased and arrested.

The firearm Winder was in possession of was discovered to be stolen.

Winder was charged with possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, possession of ammunition by a person prohibited, receiving a stolen firearm, resisting arrest and carrying a concealed deadly weapon. He committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in lieu of $15,000 secured bond.
