The Dorchester County Historical Society, in cooperation with the South Dorchester Folk Museum, will host the Mid Shore Archaeological Club’s annual artifact exhibit from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 29 at the Heritage Museums and Gardens or Dorchester, 1003 Greenway Drive, Cambridge, Massachusetts.
This program will display many artifacts found in lower Dorchester on lands that no longer exist due to erosion. Dorchester has lost more shoreline than any other county in Maryland and this includes many archaeological sites. The exhibitors and their families have been salvaging these artifacts for generations by searching the shorelines and collecting the remnants of this important part of Dorchester heritage.
Displays will range from Smith Island northward up the Bay to Tilghman Island, including Elliott, Hoopers and Taylors Islands.
This family-friendly event also will include artifact identification and a silent auctions.
Admission is $3 per person, 12 years old and older.
