The Ellendale resident has been admitted to Christiana Hospital in critical condition
An 85-year-old woman from Ellendale has been critically hurt in a collision about six miles southwest of the town.
Delaware State Police spokeswoman Master Cpl. Melissa Jaffe said the crash took place at about 1:22 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4 at the intersection of Cedar Corners and Redden roads.
The woman, driving a 2011 Ford Fusion, had been stopped at the intersection, but for an unknown reason pulled out in front of a 2015 Kenilworth T270 six-wheel truck traveling westward on Redden Road.
The truck’s driver tried to swerve to the right but hit the Fusion on the right side, Jaffe said.
The woman, whose name has not been released, was wearing her seatbelt, Jaffe added.
She first was taken to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford, but later transferred to Christian Hospital where she was admitted in critical condition.
The Kenilworth’s driver, a 50-year-old man from Pennsylvania, also was wearing seat restraints and was not hurt.
No charges have been filed at this time, Jaffe said. Cedar Corners Road at Redden Road was closed for about 2.5 hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
