The Rehoboth Art League will present “Salon: From the Collector with the Gary Hughes Collection” on Oct. 4 at the private Rehoboth Beach home of Ellen Roney Hughes.
The sculptural work of Gary Hughes is recognized for its form, originality and wit, and is found in various collections and public sites. A graduate of the Maryland Institute College of Art, Hughes went on to find a career in exhibits design and as a papier-mache sculptor, eventually forming an animation company. His figurative, limited edition bronzes gained acclaim from nationally competitive shows and his “Showers” sculpture is a longtime fixture on the Rehoboth Art League campus. Attendees will hear about the history of this late artists’ creative development over the years, with remarks from family and colleagues and a private showing of his original artwork.
Ellen Roney Hughes will host from 6 to 8 p.m. Hors d’oeuvres and beverages will be served. Tickets are $50 per person and may be purchased at rehobothartleague.org or by calling 227-8408, ext. 203. Space is limited and advance reservations are required.
