The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Organization, Sussex County Inc. will host its 27th annual commemorative weekend celebration in honor of the late Civil Rights Leader on Jan. 19-21.

Celebration festivities will begin at 11 a.m. Jan. 19 with a parade in Lewes. Individuals and organizations are invited to participate. At 4:30 p.m., the annual banquet will be held at the Georgetown CHEER Center, 20520 Sand Hill Road. Keynote speaker will be Wilma Mishoe, the newly appointed president of Delaware State University.

The celebration will conclude with a holiday community worship service at 10 a.m. Jan. 21 at St. John Second Baptist Church, 22602 Mount Joy Road, Millsboro. The Rev. George H. Edwards will bring the message accompanied by the C.N. Sample Gospel Choir.

The 2019 theme is “Keeping the Dream Alive: Never Lose Hope.”

Banquet tickets are $35 adults and $15 children age 12 and younger. Advance tickets only; no tickets will be sold at the door. The deadline for reservations is Jan. 10. A souvenir booklet will be prepared for this event.
