Volunteers are welcome to join in a Sock Mismatching Party from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 16 at Sussex Technical High School, 17099 County Seat Highway, Georgetown, to help Delawareans around the state mark Down Syndrome Rock Your Socks day.
Volunteers will sort through and mismatching 16,000 pairs of socks, which will be provided to residents, schools, businesses and community groups for Rock Your Socks Day on March 21, World Down Syndrome Day. The event is organized by the Down Syndrome Association of Delaware.
Sussex Technical High School students and staff raise several hundred dollars each year for the cause, with the goal of raising awareness of and increasing advocacy for people with Down syndrome.
Volunteers can sign up for all day — 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. — or part of the day, and students can receive volunteer credit hour certificates. Help is needed with sorting, mismatching, labeling, food prep/sales, table running, counting and clean-up.
