The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control Division of Fish & Wildlife will celebrate the completion of the new boating and fishing access area and Woodland Wharf boat dock and kayak launch at Phillips Landing, near Laurel, at 1:30 p.m. May 17.

Attendees will tour two newly-completed public use facilities that provide access to the Nanticoke River and its tributaries in Sussex County near Laurel for fishing, boating, kayaking, bird and wildlife watching, and explore the Capt. John Smith National Water Trail. Both facilities feature new boat ramps and kayak launches, among other amenities.

The event also kicks off National Safe Boating Week in Delaware, and a lifesaving award will be presented to a Sussex resident whose quick actions on the water saved two anglers from injury when their vessel capsized last month.
