Recent Sussex Technical High School graduate Jacqueline Yeo, a business, finance and marketing student, placed eighth in the PowerPoint 2016 category in the Certiport Microsoft Office Specialist U.S. National Championship.
She was named Delaware’s PowerPoint Champion for fall 2018.
Also representing Delaware at the national championships was Sussex Tech sophomore Joseph Klosiewicz, of Georgetown, who was the state’s PowerPoint Champion for spring 2019.
For the national contest, state champions are given a blank template and must create a slideshow from scratch that meets the competition parameters and the assignment’s goals.
Yeo, who plans to attend Salisbury University to study business, said earlier this year that her Microsoft Office talents are not just about rote memorization or learning which menus to select.
“We’re able to translate it into skills for our future careers,” said Yeo. “And as we learn each skill, it enhances our memory so we can do better at learning other things.”
Sussex Tech’s business, finance and marketing program gives students direct, hands-on experience in running in-school businesses, as well as a practical grounding in soft skills like public speaking, organization and team management.
