Registration for the ninth annual Dewey Goes Pink 5K Run/Walk will open Aug. 1 and is expected to sell out quickly.
Hosted by The Starboard Restaurant, in conjunction with Body Shop Fitness, has raised more than $500,000 since its inception, and all funds raised go to the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition and benefits those fighting cancer in Sussex County.
Steve “Monty” Montgomery, owner of The Starboard, founded the event to honor his late mother, who battled breast cancer.
This year’s event will be held at 11 a.m. Oct. 5. Onsite registration will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Oct. 4 and before the race from 9 to 11 a.m. Oct. 5.
Members of the community show up clad in pink to support loved ones or commemorate their own battles with cancer. Last year, 3,000 runners and walkers participated in the event, raising more than $115,000. This year, online registration will be capped at 2,800 participants.
Bethany Blues BBQ feeds attendees, live entertainment comes from Kristen and Johnny, and The Starboard will have a World War II Navy jet flyover planned during the opening ceremony.
