Wilmington enthusiast searches for 45 tags
Jordan Irazabal of Wilmington has been on a mission to find and photograph the lowest-digit license plates in Delaware. As of April 22, he is only 45 photos away from reaching his goal of documenting all 3,000 tags four digits or lower.
It may sound odd, but low-digit license plates are often tied to a sense of prestige and pride, especially for a Delaware native. For years, the plates have been sold, some for hundreds of thousands of dollars at auctions. Number six sold for $675,000 in 2008.
After that sale Irazabal began taking photos of tags on his phone. He then started his website TheDelaware3000.org. He aimed to document the lowest plates: 1-1,000, C1-C1,000 and PC1-PC1,000.
In August, after 12 years, he announced a major milestone: 100 photos left to find. Now, he’s asking for the community’s help.
“The key to finalizing this project is word of mouth. The more that people hear about it, the more they are willing to help me finish,” he said. Sensitive to privacy, he said he prefers an up-close photo of the tags.
He asks that anyone who can help find the missing tags, contact him at 302-228-8822 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
