Milton Little League opened the Mid-Atlantic Regional on Sunday in Bristol, Conn. with a 6-0 loss in the first game to Maryland.

Maryland used strong pitching and the long-ball to take down Delaware.

Stephen Wade, Maryland’s starter, pitched 4 2/3 innings of shutout ball Sunday, giving up just two hits while striking out 11 batters.

Offensively, Maryland was led by Owen Knerr, who smacked a two-run homerun, Lukas Loring, who hit a solo-shot of his own and Alex Navarro who ended the day with two hits including an RBI double.

Jase Mitchell and Frankie Fuscellaro had hits for Delaware, meanwhile Trey Hitchcock, Nolan Barry, Jackson Isaacs and Luke McCarthy drew walks for Milton.

Gage Joseph put forth a gutsy effort on the mound for Delaware, pitching four strong innings allowing just two runs on two hits while striking out nine batters.

Delaware is back in action on Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m. taking on Pennsylvania; the game can be seen on the ESPN+ app.
