Veterans and their families are encouraged to attend a free planning presentation and lunch at 11:30 a.m. March 19 at Oak Orchard/Riverdale American Legion Post 28, 31768 Legion Road, Millsboro.

Presenters will include Jason Bentley, financial adviser from Janney Montgomery Scott, and Amber B. Woodland, attorney from Procino-Wells & Woodland. Registration and lunch will begin at 11:30 a.m., and the presentation begins at noon.

Topics to be covered include asset protection, estate planning, long-term care, and veterans aid and attendance pension benefits. Proper planning is vital to ensuring longevity of resources through asset allocation, reducing tax exposure and ensuring that beneficiaries and heirs are properly designated.

The Department of Veterans Affairs offers benefits to veterans and their surviving spouses; unfortunately, more times than not, eligible individuals do not realize the benefits available to them. The attorneys Procino-Wells & Woodland are accredited by the VA, which means that they can advocate for their clients by preparing, presenting and prosecuting claims before the VA.

For eligible veterans and their surviving spouses, VA Pension Aid & Attendance is a monthly monetary benefit that is paid by the VA when the claimant is in need of the aid of another person in order to perform personal functions required in everyday living, such as bathing, feeding, and dressing. Sometimes, both Medicaid and veterans benefits are sought at the same time. In other instances, VA is applied for separately. Regardless, the benefit paid by the VA can be a critical part of an overall plan.

The presentation and lunch is free, but RSVP is requested to ncamean@janney.com or 313-0405.
